Documents

  • Marine Strategy Framework Directive Terminology Definitions and Lists
This document supports a common understanding and coherent use of the Marine
Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) terminology and official reporting lists within the GES4SEAS Project.

  • List of EOVs/EBVs for assessing cumulative effects identified
This GES4SEAS milestone (M5.4) identifies a list of Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs) and Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs) that can support MSFD reporting and provide a monitoring basis for future work on cumulative pressures in European seas.

  • Glossary
The GES4SEAS project has created a document to support a common understanding and coherent use of the Marine Strategy framework Directive (MSFD) terminology and official reporting lists.

The terms are organized thematically, and not alphabetically, following the DAPSI(W)R(M) scheme.

Educational Modules

GES4SEAS Educational Modules translate the project’s science and its six key messages into a complete, ready-to-use educational resource for marine educators, teachers, learners and relevant stakeholders.

  • Module 1 — Healthy seas for healthy human societies.
  • Module 2 — Pressures in the marine environment: 1 + 1 is not always 2.
  • Module 3 — Good Environmental Status and how it can affect your health and life (Black Sea case study).
  • Module 4 — Tipping points: small changes that trigger big shifts.
  • Module 5 — Ecosystem-Based Management: managing the whole or the hole.
  • Module 6 — Ocean optimism: rewriting the narrative of our seas.

Each module is structured pedagogically, opening with learning outcomes and a sequence of lessons that combine accessible text, embedded videos and infographics (including GES4SEAS materials such infographics and animated videos), real-world case studies from the project’s Learning Sites and partners, and “check your understanding” activities. Each module closes with final considerations and a curated set of additional resources linking to complementary lesson plans from established initiatives.

2024

  • Pressures in the marine environment
  • Good environmental status

2025

  • Tipping points
  • Ecosystem-based management

2026

  • Ocean Optimism

These are currently undergoing, and you can follow our page on Twitter and Mastodon for regular updates, or read below on our website:
